English teams fly in for big ball bash

THIS WEEKEND brings the fourth annual Kilkenny Masters Basketball Tournament which is an international event.

What started out with five men’s teams in 2018 has exploded into a bigger and prestigious affair, with 28 teams. 

There are 15 men’s and 13 ladies in Over 40s and Over 50s.

Teams are coming from Cork, Mayo, Carlow, Kerry, Offaly, Limerick, Dublin, Waterford and the Midlands. 

There will be three teams from the UK for the first time, Yorkshire, Bristol and the Midlands.

Over 350 players and officials will participate during three days of sporting action, with a social night out in the award-winning Paris Texas Bar and Restaurant on Saturday evening.

Action begins on Friday at 7pm in Loreto Gym with Kilkenny Men’s 50s team taking on WEBBA of Bristol.

SEAMUS WALSH CUP

At 8pm in O’Loughlin Gaels Gym, Kilkenny Ladies 40s meets the 2019 winners from The Midlands, who do battle for the Séamus Walsh Cup.

Following that, the Kilkenny Men’s 40s team has a tough contest versus the 2020 Lar Murphy Cup winners from The Midlands

Saturday and Sunday fixtures are spread out over O’Loughlin’s, Loreto and St Kieran’s College Gyms from 9am.
