Called To The Bar Where He Loved Life

by Jimmy Rhatigan

Charlie Malzard, Stoneyford who has passed away at his home was a giant among men in the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) for several decades.
He was the friendly face, the highly respected public voice of local publicans and proudly fought the corner of an industry he loved and devoted so much of his life to, along with his beloved wife Mary.
He was an honorary life member of the Vintners Federation.
Charlie was a quiet and warm, friendly and quite witty gentleman who was a pleasure to meet and was an enjoyable and interesting conversationalist.
Charlie and Mary were so proud of the family pub in Stoneyford and son Fred and family are now doing brilliant job of keeping a wonderful legacy alive and vibrant.
As well as being husband and wife, Charlie and Mary were also best friends who enjoyed each other’s company.
You seldom met one without the other.
Charlie soldiered with and was a great friend for many years of another great supporter of the Vintners Federation of Ireland, the late Christy Morrisson of Christy’s Bar, Upper Patrick Street, Kilkenny
Charlie is survived by his son, Fred and was pre-deceased by John and Mary.
He will also be sadly missed by his daughter-in-law Bríd, grandchildren Caoimhe, Aoibhinn and Roisín, cousins,in Ireland and overseas, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended family, neighbours and friends.
