Coaches and families inspire great girls

by Jimmy Rhatigan

THREE Castlecomer athletes were in action in Leinster Athletics Championships and there was also Castlecomer involvement in the All-Ireland Championships at Tullamore.

Pictured are Eimear and Aisling Phelan (U17 and U13) and Sofia Kerr (U18).

In the Leinster Championships Aisling Phelan was 10th in U13 Long Jump. Sofia Kerr was 3rd in her heat of the 100m and 5th in the final.

Eimear Phelan competed in the U17 100m and was part of the county relay team pipped on the line for bronze. Eimear went on win bronze in U17 hurdles.

At all-Ireland level Aisling was 5th in 60m U13 60m while Eimear was 6th in U17 100m final.

Clearly these girls hold their own at the pinnacle of underage competition.

A combination of factors make-up this achievement – apart from ability, there is the application which the girls deliver, guidance of their coaches and the support of families.
